Abstract

[Also in Division G3] In apparatus for recovering waste gas from a metal refining converter 1 employing oxygen blowing through a lance 15, to prevent the ingress of air, the pressure in the hood and cooler 16 is kept constant by adjustment of two sets of dampers in response to high and low frequency components of the pressure variation respectively. The hood pressure is converted to an electric signal by a transducer 8 and compared with a reference. The difference signal is fed to high and low pass filters 12, 9; their outputs are differentiated or integrated at 13, 10 and control servomotors 14, 11. As shown, the component controls a main damper 5 while the H.F. operates a damper 6 in a by-pass 4, but alternatively separate louvre-type dampers may be placed in a single duct. The gas is drawn off by a fan 2 and when rich in CO is directed to a holder 18, but gas of poor quality is exhausted through a flue 19.
