1,061,783. Structural connection for buildings. Aug. 13, 1963 [Aug. 17, 1962; Jan. 4, 1963], Nos. 31751/62 and 565/63. Heading E1A. In a building structure, a floor or roof member 102 is connected to vertical supporting member 24 by a dry load bearing tapered spigot and tapered socket point 31b, 32b associated with further load bearing mating surfaces 35, 44 transverse to the axis of the joint. One exemplified embodiment employs tubular spigot members secured to the upper and lower ends of hollow columns for engagement in sockets formed in members cast into the four corners of rectangular roof or floor slabs. Lateral positioning of the roof or floor slabs is determined by the mutual abutment ribs 55 on the sides of the socket members and relative rotation of the connected members is prevented by spherical members which locate in opposed hemispherical recesses 53 in the surfaces 35, 44. A modified form of spigot member is described with reference to Fig. 9 (not shown). Superimposed vertical members may be connected by the spigot and socket joints to lower and upper faces of a floor or roof member. The end faces of adjacent spigots of superimposed vertical members may or may not be in load bearing contact with each other. A tensioning member may be passed longitudinally through hollow columns and spigots.
