Abstract
1,061,730. Baling machine. MASCHINENFABBIK FAHR A.G. Dec. 13, 1963 [Dec. 14, 1962], No. 49309/63. Heading B5F. In a hay baler or the like in which bales are forced through a bale chamber by the pressure of succeeding bales, the cross-sectional area of the chamber is altered to control the bale density by means of pressure beams 3, 21, mounted upon cross-members 2, 20, respectively, which cross-members are joined by adjustable tension springs 16, 17. As shown in Fig. 1 the tension in the springs is adjusted by means of flexible members 12, 13 passing over pulleys 23, 24 and joined to nuts 8 and 9 which run upon oppositely directed threaded portions of a spindle 6 operated by a crank 7. The springs may be connected directly to the lower member 20, or by means of adjustable bolts 18, 19, as in Fig. 1, or they may be connected one to each end of a tension member passing over pulleys mounted on the lower member (Figs. 5, 6, not shown). In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) the members 12, 13 are replaced by a single tension member which passes over a third pulley which is adjustable either directly or, through the agency of a bent lever, by a screw-threaded spindle, toward or away from the upper cross-member 2.
