Abstract
1,060,211. Pressure exchangers. D. B. SPALDING. Jan. 12, 1966 [Jan. 13, 1965], No.1561/65. Heading F1N. In a pressure exchanger, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprising a cell ring 1, 2, 3 rotatable between end plates 4, 5 and having a low pressure zone defined by low pressure inlet and outlet ports 6, 8 and the cells in instantaneous communication therewith, high pressure gas which leaks between the adjacent surfaces of the cell ring and the end plates is caused to enter the low-pressure zone in the same general direction as the flow of gas therein by providing curved surfaces 13, 14 on the cell ring and curved surfaces 18, 19 around the outlet port 8 to which the leakage gas has a tendency to adhere. The surfaces oppositely adjacent the curved surfaces 13, 14, 18, 19 are each terminated, Fig. 7 (not shown) or sharply recessed 16, 17, 18, 19, substantially opposite the commencement of the curve of the surface. The recesses may be parallel or tapered and the curves may be formed from a series of plain surfaces inclined with respect to each other.
