Abstract

1,092,246. Pressure exchangers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Aug.25, 1966 [Sept. 10, 1965], No.38853/65. Heading F1N. Gas which leaks from a high to a low-pressure zone through the clearance space between a pressure exchanger cell ring 1, 2, 3 and an endplate 4 thereof, enters expansion zones 20, 25 at a location remote from the location where the expansion zones communicate with the low-pressure zone. The expansion zones 20, 25 are in the form of grooves which are disposed either in the end-plate 4, outwardly and inwardly, respectively, of a low-pressure inlet port 6 or in the ends of the cell ring. By locating the inlet to each expansion zone remote from the outlet therefrom, gas entering the zone is swirled therein before entering the low-pressure zone in the same general direction as the flow of gas in that zone.
