Abstract
1,057,902. Pre - stressed concrete. A.C. APPLICAZIONE COAZIONI, S.p.A. Jan. 24, 1964 [Jan. 24, 1963], No. 3105/64. Headings E1W and E2B. A method of prestressing for example concrete structures comprises forming a bend in rods 10' each of which is then located as shown in contact with a divergent surface of a plug 15 with the bent portions 12, overlapping a shoulder at 16, clamping the rods 10' in this location, e.g. by a disc 17 with a threaded shank, and inserting the plug 15 and the rods 10' in a sleeve 19 with a surface complementary to that of the plug 15, so that tensioning the rods 10' causes them to be wedged between the plug 15 and sleeve 19. The plug surface has grooves to receive a part of a respective rod. The sleeve 19 is threaded to engage with a locking nut 21 and is insertable in an aperture 23 in a concrete structure, the nut 21 then seating on the margin thereof so that by tightening it the rods 10' are tensioned. In a modification the disc 17 is replaced by a member with a divergent exterior surface and a threaded shank to connect it axially to the plug top between the rods 10', which are surrounded by a collar with an interior complementary to the exterior of the said member, the bent portions being now along the length of each rod 10'.
