Abstract

1,057,790. Machinery safety devices. LEAR SIEGLER Inc. Oct. 28, 1965, No. 45771/65. Heading F2J. In a safety device for a power driven machine, e.g. a press, when two control shafts 12, 14, having respective operating handles (24) (Figs. 1-4, not shown) spaced apart to necessitate the use of both the operator's hands, are rotated substantially simultaneously, tappet arms 40 thereon engage opposed arms of a lever 42 pivoted to a plunger 46 to displace the plungerwhich is adapted to actuate a fluid pressure control valve (60) (Fig. 4, not shown) or an electric switch 67-against a return spring 61, while on rotation of only one control shaft, the tappet arm 40 of that shaft causes the lever 42 to pivot against a light return spring 90 into a position in which it cannot be engaged by the other tappet arm 40, so that the plunger is not displaced. Each control shaft is urged toward a neutral position, in which its tappet arm 40 is outside the arc of movement of the lever 42, by a respective adjustable compression spring (32) (Fig. 5, not shown) acting on an arm 26 of the shaft.
