Abstract
1,055,290. Electrophotographic processes. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Oct. 2, 1963 [Oct. 8, 1962], No. 38734/63. Heading G2H. A latent electrostatic image on an insulating layer 10 is developed by liquid developer' 12 in a tank 13 by forming a foam of the liquid. Gas is introduced through a port 15 into a chamber 14 having passage 17. An applicator head 18 has holes 19 which allow gas bubbles to rise freely and form a foam above the head 18. Other means such as beaters, stirrers, or pumps may be used to produce the foam. The liquid developer may be a suspension of finely powdered pigment, e.g., nigrosine, iron oxide, carbon black, copper oxide, or antimony sulphide in a relatively volatile insulating carrier liquid such as cyclohexane, carbon tetrachloride, or "Frean" 113 (Registered Trade Mark). Toner particles may be milled with resinous materials, e.g., maleic anhydride - resin, poly-styrene, or modified pentaerythritol - resin ester. The head 18 and conductive backing 11 are normally connected to earth, but in order to provide tone control and produce reversed prints a potential may be applied between the head and backing.
