Abstract

1,055,146. Packaging. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GESELLSCHAFT. Sept. 16, 1963 [Sept. 19, 1962], No. 36327/63. Heading B8C. An apparatus for folding and sealing the ends of an open-ended tubular wrapping of thermoplastic material which project beyond the contents, comprises preliminary folding tools 3, 4, which fold the wrapping material over a portion of each end of the contents and thereby impart to each projecting end a form 1 which diverges towards the adjacent open end of the wrapping and has an elliptical cross-section, Fig. 3 (not shown). The succeeding folding and welding operations include forming partially welded transverse seams 1b Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), by means of jaws 6 and co-operating spreading devices 5, folding the seams 1b against the ends of the package, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), and then setting upright the portions of the seams which overlap the sides of the package and effecting final welding thereof by means of a heated punch 9 and co-operating levers 10, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown). Finally the upright portions are folded towards one another by levers 11, Fig. 11 (not shown), and are glued or welded to the ends of the package, the folding tools 3 then being removed. Preliminary folding tools for use with rectangular or square cross-sectioned packages are also described.
