Abstract

1,055,010. Fuel injectors. PNEUMODYNAMICS CORPORATION. Nov. 4, 1965 [Dec. 2, 1964], No.46810/65. Heading F1B. A fuel injector comprises a valve 34 the end of which slides within a flexible sleeve 62. Fuel under pressure supplied through a flexible tube 66 to the interior of sleeve 62 expands the sleeve forming an annular gap around the valve stem through which it flows to an accumulator space 100. When the pressure in pipe 66 drops, the pressure in space 100 closes sleeve 62 around the valve stem and forces valve 34 off its seat for injection to take place. Tube 66 is protected by a plastics sleeve 68; the tubes 66 for different injectors may be made the same length, any surplus as the distance of the injector from the pump varies being taken up by coiling it in a space 69. The end of the tube 66 is secured to the spigot of member 36 by adhesive and the sleeve 62 is crimped at 64 and secured by adhesive on the spigot 60. The injector body may be enclosed by a jacket 26 to protect it from the cooling water. In a modification a flange 112, Fig. 4 (not shown), on the valve has a conical face 114 which seals the open end of the flexible sleeve 116 at the end of the valve lift to prevent escape of fuel along the sleeve.
