Abstract

1,053,578. Terpolymers. MITSUBISHI PETROCHEMICAL CO. Ltd. Oct. 6, 1964. [Oct. 10, 1963], No. 40744/64. Heading C3P. A copolymer of at least two alpha-olefins and tetrahydroindene and/or its alkyl or alkenyl substitution products are made by effecting the copolymerization of the monomers in the presence of at least one organometallic compound of Group I to III of the Mendeleeff's Periodic Table and at least one Group IV A , V A , or VI A metal compound. The tetrahydroindene may be 4,7,8, 9-tetrahydroindene or 5-methyl, 5,6-dimethyl, 4-methyl, 5,6-diethyl, 5,6-di-n-propyl, 5,6-divinyl, 5,6-propenyl, 5,6-methylethyl, or 5,6-methylpropyl substituted 4,7,8,9-tetrahydroindene. Exemplified copolymers are ethylene, propylene, and 4,7,8,9- tetrahydroindene, or 5 - methyl - 4,7,8,9 - tetrahydroindene, or 5,6 - dimethyl - 4,7,8,9 - tetrahydroindene, ethylene, butene-1, and 5-methyltetrahydroindene, and propylene, butene, and 5-methyltetrahydroindene. The polymers may be sulphur vulcanized.
