Abstract

1473743 Styrene/(meth)acrylonitrile copolymers BAYER AG 11 Dec 1974 [12 Dec 1973] 53564/74 Heading C3P Styrene/(meth)acrylonitrile copolymers with improved high temperature dimensional stability are prepared by polymerizing the monomers in the presence of at least one aliphatic monoolefine as a molecular weight regulator, said olefine being incorporated into the polymer. Preferred novel products resulting from the process are copolymers containing (a) 5-85 wt. per cent of (meth)acrylonitrile units, (b) 14À99-93À1 wt. per cent of styrene units and (c) 0À01-1À9 wt. per cent of units of an aliphatic monoolefin the sum of (a), (b) and (c) being 100%. Suitable monoolefines are ethylene, propylene, butene-1, butene-2, isobutylene, a straight or branched pentene, a hexene or an octene. In the examples, the polymerizations are carried out in aqueous media.
