Abstract
1,052,970. Electrophotography. RANK XEROX Ltd. Dec. 16, 1964 [Jan. 31, 1964], No. 51249/64. Heading H1K. An electrophotographic plate is prepared by contacting an aqueous mineral acid solution of H 2 CrO 4 , CrO 3 , water-soluble salts thereof or mixtures thereof with an electrically conductive support to form a barrier layer, and subsequently depositing over said barrier layer a photo - conductive insulating material. The photo-conductor may be amorphous Se, ZnO, Zn/CdS 2 , tetragonal PbO, TiO 2 , or mixtures thereof. The mineral acid may be H 3 PO 4 , H 2 SO 4 , HNO 3 or HCl. The chromium compound may also be K 2 Cr 2 O 7 , Na 2 Cr 2 O 7 or (NH 4 ) 2 Cr 2 O 7 , Cr 3 (SO 4 ) 3 . The electrically conductive support may be Al, Cu, Ni, Mg, Zn, Sn, Cd, Ag, ferrous alloys, or alloys thereof. A chromate conversion activator may be added, e.g. KBr, KI, NaSCN, Na 2 S 2 O 3 , HCl, HBr. NH 4 Br, NaBr, ZnBr 2 , ZnCl 2 , Na 2 SO 3 , Na 2 SO 4 or CH 3 CO 2 Na, fluorides, iodates and arsenates are also mentioned. In a specific embodiment a brass foil, plate or drum is immersed in a solution of Na 2 SO 4 , CrO 3 and Cr 2 (SO 4 ) 3 at 100 F., washed with water and dried at 100 F., thus giving a barrier on the brass surface. Selenium is applied by vacuum evaporation to give a xerographic plate.
