Abstract

1,266,151. Electrophotographic element. AGFA-GEVAERT. 21 April, 1969 [26 April, 1968], No. 19888/68. Heading H1K. [Also in Division G2] In a method of making a planographic printing master electrophotographically wherein the portions of a recording layer not covered by developer are rendered hydrophilic, the recording layer comprises a conductive support and a photoconductive layer including a binding agent having dispersed therein a mixture of particles of up to 10 Á of from 95-50 wt. per cent of zinc oxide and from 5 to 50 wt. per cent of crystalline cadmium sulphide or mixed cadmium selenide-sulphide. CdS doped with ZnS and traces of Mn, Cu, Ca or Cd, or containing BaSO 4 , SiO 2 and traces of Zn and Se may be used. The resin is preferably hydrophobic and may be a silicone or alkyd resin or a copolymer of vinyl chloride, ethylene, and vinyl sulphonyl chloride. Sensitizing dyestuffs may be added. The conductive support may be a plate of Al, Zn, Cu, Fe, Sn or Pb, a layer formed from gelatine or casein having carbon black, metal particles or hygroscopic salts dispersed therein, a vacuum deposited layer of Ag or Al on an insulating support, a glassine paper sheet or a conductive polymer layer.
