Abstract

1,052,043. Hypodermic injection devices. BENGER LABORATORIES Ltd. Dec. 3, 1963 [Oct. 2, 1962; Aug. 22, 1963], Nos. 37233/62 and 33210/63. Heading A5R. A hypodermic injection device comprises a pressurised medicament pack with a metering valve 3 in the outlet, a chamber 5 of the metering valve being flexible and resilient so that, when it is open to the needle 18, pressure in the pack acts on the contents to discharge hem through the needle. The metering valve 3 is mounted in he neck of a propellant gas or liquid conainer 1. A flexible baloon 6 containing medicament is mounted vithin the container and communicates with chambers 8, 9 within he metering valve hrough a tube 15, which is controlled by a valve 16. The hamber 5 with flexible walls is formed around he metering valve. In out-of-use condition. medicament is forced by the propellant into he chambers in and surrounding the metering valve. On depressig a hollow plunger 11 gainst a spring 12, the valve 16 closes the tube 15 and medicament is forced from the metering valve chambers by the pressure of the propellant against the flexible walls of the chamber 5, through an aperture 20 into the plunger and thence through the needle 18. On release, the plunger aperture is exposed to atmosphere and the plunger closes the metering valve chambers, valve 16 being free to open, so that medicament flows to the metering chamber from the balloon. In alternative constructions the medicament is contained in a cylinder closed by a free piston and attached to the metering valve or the propellant is contained in a capsule which is pervious to propellant gas and is positioned in a medicament container having a metering valve. According to Provisional Specification 37233/62, a plastic-coated container intended to be used in an upright position contains both medicament and propellant gas and has a tube which is connected to the metering valve at the top of the container and extends to the bottom of the container.
