A hood type hair drier, adjustably mounted on the back of a chair, is so constructed as to be capable of being folded flat for storage when not in use. In the preferred form, flat box-like elements are pivoted together to form the hood the rear element 10 having side elements 9 and a top element 11 pivoted to it. Air from a heater and blower unit 1 passes through a telescopic tube 4 to a hollow pivot and thence through a duct 5 to the interior of the hood sections, finally passing out through suitably placed apertures on to the head of the client. When the drier is not in use, the sections 9,11 are turned back into the plane of the rear section 10, the assembly is then pivoted backwards about the joint 6, to the position shown dotted, and slid downwards into a housing 3. In a modification of the foregoing the blower and heater assembly is arranged as a unit with the hood and is adjustably mounted on the back of the chair so that the whole unit can be lowered behind the chair when not required. A further construction of hood, also described, comprises an inner perforated wall of flexible material held in a hemispherical shape by a spiral spring, associated with an outer, hemispherical, flexible cover and air is blown between the two walls so as to issue from the perforations in the inner wall. When not in use this hood is pressed flat, against the pressure of the spring, and is held by a transverse retaining pin.
