Abstract
1,266,226. Hair treating apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 30 Sept., 1969 [3 Oct., 1968], No. 48093/69. Heading A5R. [Also in Division A4] Apparatus for curling and drying the hair comprises a hair dryer including means for producing a flow of heated air, a hood adapted to be positioned about and to distribute heated air to the user's head, an air duct for directing heated air to the hood, and a steam generator 37 having a spout removably engageable in an orifice in the duct. The apparatus has a base (10), Fig. 1 (not shown) containing an air heater and impeller, the duct leading from the base to the hood and having upper and lower telescopic sections 19, (18) respectively. Upper section 19 leads to the space between inner apertured hood wall 30 and outer hood wall 33. The steam generator 37 has thermally insulated body portion 38 holding a water reservoir and electric heater. The steam exit spout 51 may be secured in an orifice 54 in upper duct section 19 by engagement between section 19 and projections 52, 53 on the walls of spout 51. A spring-biased cover 55 closes orifice 54 when the generator 37 is removed. A longitudinal axis of spout 51 is preferably inclined at an angle of 25 to 45 degrees to a longitudinal axis of the body 38 so that steam may pass directly into the hood.
