Abstract
1,047,871. Garment waistbands. G. PASQUIER. Feb. 3, 1964 [Feb. 6, 1963], No. 4520/64. Heading A3V. A method of making a waistband and securing it to a garment comprises turning in an edge of a facing strip 1, stitching the other edge to the garment 3 and to a lining strip 2, which may also have an edge turned in, at 5, the strips having their right sides against the garment, folding up the strips and securing them by stitching an adhesive at 6. In a modification, a facing strip having an inturned upper edge is secured first along that edge to the upper edge which may also be inturned, of a lining strip and both strips are secured to the waist edge of a garment by adhesive. Either or both strips may be stitched or adhesively secucured before assembly of the band to a co-extensive or narrower canvas reinforcing strip. Additionally or optionally a petersham or an elastic strip is secured between the strips 1 and 2 by the seam 5. Alternative locations of the seam 6 are shown in Figs. 9, 11 and 21 (not shown), Fig. 21 also showing a layer 13 of friction material secured to the lining 2. In a further embodiment (Fig. 20, not shown) a strip of friction material is secured by the seam 6 so that it projects above the finished waist band.
