Abstract

1312931 Garments with waistbands M I MORTON 30 April 1971 [18 Feb 1970] 7780/70 Heading A3V An opening 13 is formed through the waistband 11 and part of the material 14 of a skirt or trousers, the opening in the waistband being bridged by elastic 12 and that in the material 14 by interlinked cords 15, to provide an elastic waistband which will not wrinkle in use. A piece of material 16 stretchable in the longitudinal direction of the waistband 11 is provided as a backing for the interlinked cords 15, which cords need not themselves be elastic. A preferred embodiment of the invention for a skirt provides two such openings each having an inextensible backing piece of material sewn to the inside of the skirt at that edge of the opening furthest from the other opening while the two nearest edges of the backing pieces are joined by an elastic tape. A further embodiment incorporates two openings which have in common a single inextensible backing piece from which a Vee-shaped portion is cut out and the cut edges put under tension by joining them with an elastic thread or strip.
