Abstract
664,605. Garment waistbands. LATHAM, J. Feb. 17, 1950, No. 4151/50. Class 141. A garment waistband for trousers &c. has one or more inserts of elastic material 3 enclosed within a non-gathered covering 2 of bias-cut material which will extend with the elastic under tension. The bias-cut covering is preferably of the same material as the non-bias waistband 1 and the insert is secured by stitching 4a, 4b in a gap in the waistband. One or both side edges of the insert, together with the corresponding edge or edges of the waistband, may be inclined so that the upper edge of the insert is pretensioned. The elastic 3 may be completely enclosed by the covering 2 or may extend through the ends of it to be secured directly to the waistband, and may be of less width than the covering.
