Abstract
A medium to high carbon steel rod has a microstructure comprising fine pearlite grains with minute traces of grain boundary ferrite and is substantially free of bainite. The hot rolled rod is subjected to controlled cooling by the process in the apparatus of Specification 1,024,713 to form the required microstructure.
