Abstract
1,045,886. Machinery breaking pieces. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. July 20, 1964 [July 26, 1963], No. 29846/63. Addition to 955,368. Heading F2X. A neck 8 in a sleeve 7 coupling, a machine power shaft 1 to gear-box,input. 2 fractures on excess torque and a fractured sleeve half 7B is axially moved to trip a lever 13 stopping shaft 1. Sleeve half 7B is moved by either a cam ended cylinder 14B screwed thereto-engaging a similar cylinder 14A screwed to the other sleeve half 7A or an internal thread 24 on half 7B engaging a thread 23 on shaft 1, Fig. 2 (not shown). A circlip 9 prevents axial movement of the sleeve half 7A. The sleeve 7 may be splined at 5 or bolted at 20 (Fig. 2) to shaft 1 and is splined at 11 to shaft 2. Auxiliary gear 3 meshes teeth 4 on shaft 1. The sleeve 7 and cylinders 14A and 14B may be axially split for assembly.
