Abstract

1,045,096. I.C. engine combustion chambers; cooling. MOTORENFABRIK HATZ, G.m.b.H. Jan. 20, 1965 [Jan. 29, 1964], No. 2404/65. In an air-cooled fuel injection I.C. engine having a light-metal cylinder head 1, Fig. 1, part of a swirl chamber 9 is formed by a cupform insert body 15, made of a very low heat conductivity material, having an inclined outlet 15a of arcuate cross-section. In a modification the insert is formed to engage with the cylinder block thereby preventing rotation. Cooling Vertical cooling fins 10, Fig. 3 (not shown) are joined to a surrounding jacket 11 to define vertical axial channels which open into corresponding axial channels in the cylinder block 2. An additional transverse channel 12 having two entrances 12a, 12b is divided by a longitudinal rib 14 and opens into the vertical axial ducts of the cylinder.
