Abstract

1,045,002. Automatic voltage control. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Jan. 22, 1965 [Jan. 23, 1964; Oct. 28, 1964], No. 2894/65. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H2] A voltage regulator supplied from an A.C. source 1 over a transformer 10 comprises a chopper 2, which chops the A.C. input pulses at a frequency which is high with respect to the input frequency, a comparator 6 for comparing the output voltage with a reference voltage from a source 8, and a controller 7 responsive to the output from the comparator for controlling the on/off ratio of the chopper in a corrective manner. The output from the chopper is supplied to the load by way of a filter 4, tuned to the input supply frequency, and a transformer 9. The chopper may include transistors or thyristors (Figs. 2, 3, 4, not shown), and the chopper output may be rectified for application to a D.C. load, (Fig. 6, not shown). A three-phase embodiment with a rectified output is described with reference to Fig. 7 (not shown).
