Abstract

[Also in Division H2] An inverter comprises thyristors 1, 2 connected in push-pull and associated with a transformer 5 to provide an A.C. output at terminals m,n from a D.C. input at terminals +,-. The thyristors 1, 2 are turned on by pulses derived from a multivibrator 13 and are turned off by the discharge therethrough of capacitors 10 and 9 respectively, this discharge being controlled by a third thyristor 3 which is itself controlled in dependence upon output voltage variations whereby the conducting periods of thyristors 1 and 2 are automatically regulated to keep the output voltage constant. The control pulses for thyristor 3 are derived from a circuit including a pulse transformer 23 and transistors 19, 20, 21 which are energized over a rectifier 25 from the multi-vibrator 13, the output voltage being applied to a transformer 34 for comparison with a reference voltage derived from a Zener diode 18 and the resultant being amplified by transistor 19.
