[Also in Division G3] A controlled semi-conductor rectifier is connected either in parallel or in series with the control winding of a saturable reactor in order to control the output voltage of an electrical supply. A main rectifier 2 is supplied from A.C. mains 34 through a saturable reactor 32. The output of rectifier 2 is applied to a voltagesensitive bridge comprising resistors 39, 41, 42 and a Zener diode 40 which controls the semiconductor rectifier 10 in series with the saturating winding of the reactor 32 so that reactor 32 is saturated when the voltage of rectifier 2 is low, and unsaturated when the voltage is high. In a modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the voltagesensitive bridge is omitted, the rectifier 10 is in shunt with the saturating winding of the reactor and is controlled by connecting the control electrode to a tapping on a potential divider across the rectifier 2.
