Abstract

1,044,517. Pouring devices; container closures; delivering measured quantities of liquid. WADDINGTON & DUVAL (HOLDINGS) Ltd. July 25, 1963 [July 25, 1962], No. 28615/62. Headings B8D, B8N, B8T and B8X. [Also in Division F2] Liquid is dispensed from a container N through a movable valve member having a liquid inlet 3 and liquid exit 5, a vent opening into the container being provided at 4. In a modification, Figs. 2-5 (not shown), a lining 12 is slidable in a fixed sleeve 11, both members 11, 12 being injection moulded from polythene. A rib 32 on the sleeve 11 forms an interference fit with the flange of an opening 30<SP>1</SP> in the container. The lining 12 has a liquid inlet 18a, 18b, liquid outlet 17, and vent opening 19; the sleeve 11 has a liquid inlet 15a, 15b and vent opening 16, Fig. 4 (not shown). An abutment 14b on the lining comes into friction contact with an abutment 13d on the sleeve to indicate an intermediate withdrawal position, but may be pulled past it. To obtain a measured quantity of liquid the lining is pushed inwards until the inlet 18a, 18b in the lining extends beyond the inner end of the sleeve and the outlet 17 in the lining partially coincides with the inlet 15a, 15b in the sleeve. In this position, air may enter the container through the vent 19 in the lining. When the lining member is filled, it is pulled out to the intermediate position so that the outlet 17 extends beyond the outer edge of the sleeve and the inlet 18a, 18b in the lining is closed. Alternatively, if the abutment 14b is pulled past the abutment 13d on the sleeve, the inlet 18a, 18b can be made to coincide with the inlet 15a, 15b of the the sleeve; the outlet 17 being beyond the outer end of the sleeve, liquid may then be poured freely. Air enters the container through the vent 16 in the sleeve as the vent 19 in the lining is brought into register with it. Before use, the end of the sleeve 11 is removed by pulling a tab 28<SP>1</SP> which causes radial spokes 28, joining a disc 27 to the sleeve, to be ruptured. The liquid may be directed outwards by a member 37. A ring 23 on the lining member forms a handle.
