Abstract
1,042,594. Casting processes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 21, 1963 [Nov. 5, 1962], No. 41765/62. Heading B3F. In a method of casting thin rods a mould member 1 (the Figure, not shown) is inserted through an opening 4 in the top of a vessel 2 containing molten material. The mould member 1 has an end portion 3 and an enlarged portion spaced axially therefrom so that when in the required position in the vessel, the end portion 3 lies just beneath the surface of the molten material and the enlarged portion co-operates with the opening 4 so as to seal the vessel. Pressure created in the vessel or a vacuum created in the mould member causes the molten material to rise into the end portion of the mould member where it is allowed to solidify and so form a thin rod which is subsequently removed from the mould member.
