Abstract

1,042,187. Washing machines. S. A. PETERSEN. Oct. 1, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], No. 38685/63. Heading D1A. A horizontal axis rotary drum washing machine comprises, an inner rotary drum 4 divided into at least three compartments by radial partitions 3 each having a loading opening 5 closed by a sliding door 7, an outer container 8 having a loading opening 9 towards its top and a discharging opening 10 towards its bottom, both openings 9 and 10 having sliding doors. The openings 9 and 10 are on opposite sides of a wall 11, 15 so that washing is loaded by gravity from a shaft 12 in a "dirty" compartment A and is unloaded also by gravity into a cart 14 in a "clean" compartment B. The shaft 12 is provided with flaps 13 the lowermost of which swings down into the opening 9 of the outer container 8 when the sliding door is opened. The inner drum 4 is adapted to be driven at a slow speed in alternate directions for washing and rapidly in one direction for centrifuging. The compartments of the inner drum may be divided into sections by means of partitions parallel to the end walls of the drum.
