[Also in Divisions D1 and H2] A washing or dry-cleaning machine comprises a horizontal rotatable cylinder 11 mounted in a housing 10 and having a diametral partition 15 forming two compartments 13, 14 each having a door occupying a sector of an end wall and extending over an angular distance of 145 degrees, which can be aligned with door means in the end of the housing so that, for loading, the partition is more vertical than horizontal and for unloading the partition is more horizontal than vertical. Compartments 13, 14 have sectional doors .A, B comprising sections A 1 , B 1 hinged adjacent and parallel to partition 15 and further hinged sections A 2 , A 3 ; B 2 , B 3 sections A 1 , A 2 ; B 1 , B 2 being locked by bolts 22 to hold sections A 3 , B 3 in place. Housing doors C, D are mounted on vertical hinges 24, 25. When loading, e.g. by removable shoots 26, partition 15 is vertical and all doors are opened, sections A 2 , B 2 forming a shelf. During unloading, partition 15 is first aligned with the edge of, e.g. door C, the appropriate doors in the cylinder and housing being aligned and compartment 14 emptied after which the doors are closed and partition 15 is aligned with the edge of door D, the appropriate doors again being aligned and compartment 13 is emptied. The doors are in the form of sectors of an angle between over 90 and 145 degrees as shown 108 degrees. The machine may be mounted to be loaded at one end in a "dirty" room and emptied at the other in a "clean" room. In this case, the housing may have only one door at each end. Automatic means are provided for stopping the cylinder 11 in the required positions for loading and unloading.
