Abstract
L-Glutamic acid is prepared by inoculating an L-glutamic acid producing micro-organism which requires biotin for its growth in a culture medium containing biotin in excess of the amount required for maximum growth of said micro-organism and adding polyethylene glycol monostearate of the formula C17H35COO(CH2CH2O)nH (where n is an integer of between 5 and 35) during the course of the cultivation. The polyoxyethylene glycol monostearate is preferably added at an early stage of the logarithmic growth of the micro-organism. The micro-organism preferably belongs to the genus microbacterium, Micrococcus, Brevibacterium or Corynebacterium and is preferably Microbacterium ammoniaphilum ATCC. No. 15354.
