In a "sound proof " window comprising two or more glazed frames 2, 3 sliding on parallel horizontal flanges 4, 5 in a fixed frame 1, the central vertical edges of the sliding frames overlap when closed and carry mating rubber strips 14, Fig. 3, whose upper and lower ends engage wool pile sealing strips 19 on resilient blocks 15 mounted centrally in the frame 1. Each block 15 includes a layer of rubber whose thickness is selected for the particular frame. The frames are of extruded aluminium. Each sliding frame comprises a channel 6 holding the glass 7 through a lining of water-repellent felt or rubber, and (around three sides) a channel 8 engaging the flange 4 or 5 through a nylon bearing strip 10 and wool-pile sealing strips 9. In practice two windows of the kind shown are mounted one in front of the other. Windows of any desired length can be built up by having two or more sliding frames on each flange 4 or 5.
