Abstract

1,040,904. Steering; castor wheels. AUTOSET (PRODUCTION) Ltd. Jan. 27, 1964 [Feb. 7, 1963], No. 4947/63. Headings B7D and B7H. A wheel unit comprising a pair of wheels mounted upon a swivel head 11 carried by bearings mounted in the vehicle by a collar 13, as described in Specification 1,040,903, is lockable in a fixed position by means of a detent 10 which may be urged into engagement with a socket 12 by a spring 17. A peg 14 seats in a groove 15 in the engaged position and may be re-seated on a shallow groove 18 in the detent guide 16 in the disengaged position. The wheel unit is also provided with a steering arm 20 by means of which it may be connected to a steering linkage, e.g. of the Ackermann type. Sockets may also be provided for engagement by crowbars for steering purposes. The units may be provided upon a trailer vehicle.
