Abstract

1,040,742. Cutting-apparatus. MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd. May 1, 1963 [May 2, 1962], No. 16871/62. Heading B4B. [Also in Division A2] Apparatus for cutting a web of material such as cork-tipping material 2 for cigarettes comprises cutting knives 4, mounted on a rotating shaft 5 parallel to the axis of rotation of the shaft, which coact with counter surfaces 3 in a drum 1, and means for causing relative movement along the line of the cut between the knives and the counter surfaces at the time of cutting. The knives are mounted for radial movement with respect to the shaft 5 by rubber bushes 7 as described in Specification 849,228. The knives 4 are attached to a carrier 6 which is slidably keyed at 10, 11 to the shaft 5. The carrier is biased to the right as viewed in Fig. 2 by a spring 12 and is moved to the left by the action of a cam 13 on a fixed roller 14. The counter surfaces in the drum 1 are attached to dovetail element 16 which may be slidable in the drum 1 by the action of a similar cam and roller arrangement. Other means for reciprocating the carrier 6 and/or the elements 16, e.g. solenoids or oscillating leaf springs, may be provided.
