In a mineral-mining machine a cutter drum 13 is reciprocated axially of the driven shaft 11 supporting and driving the drum either by one or more pistoncylinder units 20 disposed about and parallel to said shaft between the body of the machine and the drum or by an oblique, circular track coacting with roller means, the track being secured either to the drum or the shaft and visa versa for the roller means.
