Abstract
740,039. Cutting tobacco. MASCHINENFABRIK A. HEINEN GES. March 23, 1954 [March 31, 1953], No. 8394/54. Class 5 (1). Tobacco 11 fed through a mouthpiece 10 is cut by the edge of an endless driven steel band 13 stretched between rollers 12. The band 13 may be traversed over the mouthpiece by hand movement of its carriage 19. The band 13 may have cutting edges on both sides to cut both ways when it is arranged to be reciprocated. A number of such bands 13 may be mounted radially in recesses on a disc 24 rotated in front of the mouthpiece 10 by a hollow shaft 23 containing a drive shaft 29 for the various belts. The drive shaft 29 operates a reduction gear 31 with bevel drive to a roller 12 for each belt 13. The belts are tensioned by adjusting their slidable bearings 27 by screws 35. The edge of the belt may be kept sharp by a rotated grinding wheel 34. The belts 13 are supported from the inside against the thrust of the outgoing tobacco by guide blocks 28. Instead of the cutting belts, individual knives carried on a flexible element may be used.
