Abstract

1,040,307. Cellulose triacetate filaments. SOC. RHODIACETA. Nov. 2, 1964 [Nov. 8, 1963], No. 44629/64. Heading B5B. Filamentary materials of cellulose triacetate are made by extruding into a spinning cell a solution of cellulose triacetate in methylene chloride, or a mixture of methylene chloride and an aliphatic alcohol containing one to four carbon atoms, the mixture containing at least 80% by weight of methylene chloride, and introducing into the cell in the neighbourhood of the spinneret, a gas at 50-90‹ C. The whole of the gaseous evaporative medium may be thus introduced, or a part thereof may be introduced at a point lower down the cell, at either a higher, lower or the same temperature. A suitable spinning cell (Fig. 2, not shown) contains a spinneret 2, a heating jacket 3, gas inlets 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, gas outlet 5, and an additional gas inlet 7. In examples, solutions of cellulose triacetate in methylene chloride/methanol mixture are extruded into spinning cells heated at 88‹ C., through which are passed (1) air at 60‹ C. adjacent the spinneret; (2) air at 63‹ C. adjacent the spinneret and air at 25‹ C. at a point 1 metre below the spinneret.
