Abstract
1,172,607. Dry spinning apparatus. TOYO BOSEKI K.K. 31 Oct., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966], No. 49522/67. Heading B5B. As shown in the drawing, a dry spinning apparatus comprises a spinneret to which a spinning solution is supplied under pressure through an inlet 2, extruded downwardly first through an evaporating chamber 3 positioned immediately below the spinneret, and then through a cylindrical spinning cell 15. The freshly extruded filaments are drawn downwardly through the chamber 3 and the spinning cell 15, from which they are withdrawn as a bundle through the outlet 16 and wound up on bobbin 17. The evaporating chamber 3 is provided with an inlet compartment 4 into which a heated inert gas is drawn through the inlet 8 and passes through the screen 6 and across the space S in the chamber 3 in a direction transverse to the path of travel of the filaments. From the space S the gas is withdrawn through the screen 7, the compartment 5 and the outlet 9. Most of the solvent is evaporated from the filament in the space S, which functions as a filament setting zone and is recovered in the device 11 from the gas withdrawn from the chamber 3 by the aspirator 12. The inert gas after having been freed from solvent is returned to the chamber 3 by the blower 14 after having been heated in the device 13. Heated inert gas is passed through the spinning cell 15 concurrently or countercurrently to the direction of travel of the filaments through the cell in order to evaporate any remaining solvent from the filaments. As shown in the drawing, heated inert gas is fed through the inlet pipe 21 into the annular inlet compartment of the cell 15 and passes through the screen 22 down into the main portion of the cell from which it is withdrawn through the outlet pipe 24 and pumped to the solvent recovery zone. The apparatus is said to be particularly useful for the production of polyurethane filaments.
