Abstract

1,060,337. Conjugate filaments. JAPAN EXLAN CO. Ltd. July 2, 1965 [July 2. 1964], No. 28244/65. Heading B5B. In a method for spinning conjugate filaments by extruding at least two fibre-forming ma terials through a common orifice, the materials are merged in a laminar flow having a zig-zag or wavy interfacial junction in cross-section prior to extrusion so as to provide a zig-zag or wavy interfacial junction in the formed fibre. In apparatus for producing bi-component filaments, a spinneret plate (2), provided with rows of orifices (1), is mounted on guide plate (4) having slits (3) in the same number of rows as orifices (1) (Fig. 3) (not shown). The inlet section of cylindrical sleeve (5) is provided with a baffle (not shown) which divides the inlet section into two chambers (9), (10) to which different spinning solutions or melts are supplied (Fig. 1) (not shown). The outlet section of sleeve (5) is provided with narrow channels (12), (12<SP>1</SP>) divided by partitions (11), communicating with chambers (9), (10) such that the channels are supplied alternately with the different solutions or melts, which then merge in common slits (3). A plurality of grooves (15) (Figs. 2 and 4) (not shown) communicating with channels (12) and slits (3) and grooves (15<SP>1</SP>), communicating with channels (12<SP>1</SP>) and slits (3), are alternately arranged so that the solutions discharged therefrom will alternately merge and flow into common slit (3) in laminar flow with a zig-zag or wavy interfacial junction.
