Abstract

An anodized coating, e.g. 0.2 to 2 mils thick, which is resistant to thermal crazing, is produced on an aluminium body, for architectural use or as automobile trim, by anodizing the body immersed in an aqueous electrolyte such as sulphuric acid, then immersing the coated body in a hot aqueous sealing bath, wherein the body is contacted, e.g. in the electrolyte and/or sealing bath or a separate bath, with para-toluene sulphonamide with or without sodium lignosulphonate, either or both preferably being in a concentration of at least 0.005 g/l.
