Abstract
1,036,875. Surge diverters. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 27, 1963 [June 6, 1962], No. 21897/62. Heading H2H. A surge diverter generally similar to that of Specification 677,949 has passageways 5 which are formed by co-operating channels in the insulating discs 1 comprising the arc extinguishing chamber, the passageways 5 venting the constricted region 7 of this chamber, Fig. 2 (not shown), and leading back to its region of maximum wall spacing at the electrodes 2, 3. Each electrode is carried by a respective disc 1 and is electrically connected by a rivet 11 to a metal plate 10 serving as a terminal. A magnetic blow-out field may be provided by a coil (not shown) surrounding the chamber, or when the diverter is used on D.C. circuits, by one or more permanent magnets each located on a plate 10 which in this case will have a raised peripheral rim.
