Abstract

1,036,645. Increasing hull depth. MITSUBISHI SHIPBUILDING & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. May 26, 1964 [June 18, 1963], No. 21802/64. Heading B7S. A method of increasing the depth of the hull of a ship comprises dividing the hull 1 into an upper part 3 and a lower part 4, the upper part 3 being divided into a large block 5 and smaller blocks 6 and 7, a plurality of arms 8 being fixed to the deck 9 of block 5 while guides 10 are erected on the decks 11 and 12 of blocks 6 and 7 respectively to receive jacks 14 by which the arms 8 are supported. The block 5 is jacked up and a new block 16 is placed in the space produced by the jacking up by sliding the new block 16 on rollers 18 positioned between longitudinal bulkheads 15 and 17. With block 16 in place, the rollers are removed and block 5 is placed in position on top of block 16 and the hull part 4 and blocks 16 and 5 welded together.
