Abstract

1,036,361. Seals. TRANSPORTA, NARODNI PODNIK, CHRUDIM. Feb. 20, 1964 [Feb. 23, 1963], No. 7062/64. Heading F2B. A labyrinth packing for a bearing comprises a first part connected to a stationary element of the bearing and a second part connected to a movable element, one of the parts defining at least one chamber for separating and collecting foreign matter, the or each chamber, narrowing to an annular gap, and the other part being provided with a cylindrical extension extending into each gap. As shown at the left-hand side of Fig. 1, a chamber 6 is defined by a plate 14 and by rings 7, 8 connected to each other by bridging pieces and fixed to the stationary shaft 1, and a cylindrical extension 17 of a ring 16 fixed to the rotating body 4 extends into the gap 12 between the rings 7, 8. On the right-hand side of Fig. 1, stationary rings 8<SP>1</SP>, 9 and 7, connected by bridging pieces, define chambers 6<SP>1</SP>,6<SP>11</SP>into which extensions 17, 17<SP>1</SP> of a rotating ring 16<SP>1</SP> extend. Alternatively (Fig. 2, not shown) a rotating ring 16<SP>11</SP>mounted on the shaft 1<SP>1</SP>has extensions 17<SP>111</SP>extending into chambers 6, 6<SP>1</SP>,6<SP>11</SP>defined by rings 7<SP>11</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP>,9<SP>1</SP>and 10. The walls of the chambers may be coated with grease or glue to collect foreign matter and the bearing may also be sealed by discs 5, 5<SP>1</SP>.
