Abstract
1,035,843. Continuous casting. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 8, 1964 [Jan. 16, 1963], No. 1957/63. Heading B3F. A continuous casting mould (the Figure not shown) comprises a thin open-ended tubular mould wall 12 formed from an internally oxidized alloy and a thick backing member 13 to which the thin wall is secured and which is provided with liquid cooling passages 15 therein. The term internally oxidized alloy is defined in the Specification as an alloy in which a minor constituent with a high affinity for oxygen is dissolved in a matrix with a lower affinity for oxygen, the minor constituent is subsequently oxidized producing an alloy with stable thermal properties. The specific alloy given is 99À5% Cu and 0À5% Mg. The Mg may be varied between 0À25% and 2% by weight and up to 1À5% Ni by weight may be included.
