Abstract

1,035,009. Rotary pumps. WESTERN BRASS WORKS. Dec. 31, 1964, No. 53072/64. Heading F1F. A rotary pump of the flexible-vane type comprises a rotor or impeller 36 (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) made of an elastomeric material e.g. rubber, and attached to a driving shaft 18 to rotate within a capsule or unit formed by a sleeve 37 made of sheet metal e.g. brass, a wear plate 42, and synthetic plastics material e.g. P.T.F.E., 43 moulded around the sleeve and wear plate to support it in a housing 10, inlet and outlet ports 32, 34 in the capsule being in register with ports 12, 14 in the housing. The material 43 includes grooves 70, 72 containing sealing rings 74, 76 and houses a stationary seal 54 for the shaft. The end of the capsule remote from the wear plate is closed by either a removable cover-plate 64 on the housing or on end plate 68 (Fig. 8, not shown) attached to the sleeve. The wear plate is fixed to the sleeve by a plurality of tabs 38. Air-cooling apertures 26 are provided in the housing adjacent a sealing plate 24 on a bearing 22 for the shaft. The sleeve may be fabricated from two separate parts (Figs. 9, 10, not shown) which are either spaced apart or in abutment with one another.
