Abstract

1,034,153. Cleaning floor coverings. BISSELL Inc. May 20, 1965 [Aug. 5, 1964], No. 21426/65. Heading A4F. In a device for shampooing a rug or carpet powdered shampoo 4 is applied to the rug or carpet from a hopper 3, which is manually propelled by a handle 6, by feed rollers 9, 10 which roll on the rug or carpet. In the forward motion of the device the roller 9 feeds the powder 4 downwardly through the gap 17 between the roller 9 and the hopper wall 13, whilst the roller 10 feeds the powder 4 through the gap 19 between the roller 10 and the edge 12 of the handle supporting plate 5. When the device moves rearwardly the roller 9 feeds the powder 4 through the gap 18 between it and the plate edge 11, whilst the roller 10 feeds the powder 4 through the gap 20 between it and the hopper wall 14. To avoid clogging of the gaps 17 to 20 with powder the rollers 9, 10 have mounted on hard cores 21 resilient compressible sleeves 22 of porous material such as polyurethane foam. The plate 5 carries a powder applying brush 8.
