Abstract

1311296 Cleaning carpets BISSELL Inc 7 Aug 1970 [8 Aug 1969] 38268/70 Heading A4F Apparatus for applying shampoo foam to a carpet comprises a sponge 12 arranged to receive liquid shampoo from a distributor 9 and means, e.g. an oscillatable brush comprising a backing rod 18 carrying bristles 19, for alternately engaging and disengaging from the sponge to squeezingly beat it to cause foam generation and for working the generated foam into the carpet. The rod 18 is oscillated about the axis of a shaft 23 by crank mechanism 24 driven by an electric motor 26. The apparatus includes a frame 5 mounted on rollers 7 and movable over a carpet by a handle 1, Fig. 1 (not shown) to which a reservoir for shampoo liquid is secured. The liquid passes from the distributor 9 through spaced openings and flows to the sponge 12 over the inclined upper surface of a non cellular plastics member 13 to which the sponge 12 is secured.
