Abstract

1,033,471. Electric vehicles; single wheel mountings. A.C. CARS Ltd. March 22, 1965 [March 20, 1961], No. 11874/64. Headings B7D and B7H. The single steering and driving wheel 4 of a battery electric invalid chair is mounted on an inclined axle 5 at the foot of shaft 7 which is connected by chain drive 14, 15, 16 to manual actuating member 12 and is driven by motor 20 through V-belt 17, pulley 10 rotatable on shaft 7 and friction cone 9 engaging surface 8 of the wheel. The friction drive may be replaced by bevel gears. Actuating member 12 has a control handle at its upper end which is depressed to close switch 22 and start the motor and is moved angularly to steer the wheel 4. Extension 24 of shaft 7 carries a wheel, direction indicator at the top.
