An electrically driven toy vehicle has an inertial disc 1 on a screwed motor shaft 5 to effect operation of a changeover switch 26 to reverse the device, and means 53 to interrupt the drive upon said drive reversal. Fig. 2 shows a plan view of a vehicle, wherein the changeover switch 26 is held in the position shown during forward drive. When the vehicle slows, due to an obstruction, or to resistance introduced into the circle by sound-actuated means, illustrated in Fig. 6 (not shown), the disc 1 runs along the screwed shaft 5 and moves the forked end of a bar 22 to the right, as viewed in Fig. 2, to move the switch 26 to its other extreme position whereby the current direction is reversed to drive the motor shaft and gear 10 in opposite direction. The road wheel 57 cannot reverse owing to a pair of clutch members 54, 54a but the other wheel (not shown) on the opposite end of shaft 16 does reverse a small amount until current is interrupted by a switch 53 so that the vehicle turns a little as well as reversing a little. A quadrant gear 65 driven by shaft 16 may also turn the steering in the same direction by a rod 64. Alternatively the rod 64 may be used to raise a bulldozer blade. Immediately upon the vehicle stopping the inertial wheel returns to its initial position to re-establish forward drive.
