Abstract
1,032,447. Gaseous discharge tubes. M-O VALVE CO. Ltd. Oct. 13, 1964 [Oct. 25, 1963], No. 42297/63. Addition to 931,760. Heading H1D. In a gas-filled discharge tube as claimed in Specification 931,760 comprising a ceramic tube 13 connected between a metal closure member 18 at anode potential, and a generally metallic envelope structure 1, a second ceramic tube 4 is sealed between a metal portion 3 of the envelope structure adjacent anode 22 and the remaining portion 2. An auxiliary anode 23 is mounted on and connected to portion 3, and part of at least one of envelope portions 2, 3 overlaps ceramic tube 4 without touching it so that the shortest path between portions 2, 3 over the surface of tube 4 is long compared with the shortest path via the gas filling. As shown, the outer surfaces of tubes 4, 13 are ribbed to increase external leakage paths. The thyratron contains deuterium at 0À3 mm. of Mg, and includes a control electrode formed by three discs 28, 29, 30 each having a pair of arcuate slots. The cathode 25 and heat shield 36 are as described in Specification 962,681. Cooling fins may be provided externally of envelope portions 2, 3. Specific dimensions are given.
